Fabiana is a 31 year old woman from Barcelona. She had a baby 4 years ago and while she was in hospital contracted Meningitis. No one was able to explain how this happened. This extremely aggressive form of the disease is called Meningococcal-Meningitis and can kill in a matter of hours. The initial unspecific symptoms such as increased temperature and headaches make an early diagnosis difficult. By the time the illness had been properly diagnosed it was almost too late. She survived, but both of her legs had to be amputated at knee level and she lost a number of fingers and her right thumb. She quickly took up her everyday life again and is doing all she can to come to terms with her handicap. Fabiana has a strong personality and is determined not to let her handicap get her down. She is a wonderful example for other people in a similar situation.
